Plastic Surgery Methods Overview |
Plastic surgery
is becoming a real mass phenomenon. Only in
2006
the number of cosmetic
plastic surgery operations equaled to 11.5
million and it doesn't stop to increase. According to the statistics
the most widespread plastic surgery procedures are liposuction
(403,684), breast
augmentation (383,886), eyelid surgery (209,999), abdominoplasty
(172,457) and breast reduction (145,822).
Being in the greatest demand, liposuction, or suction
lipectomy is
a plastic surgery procedure which removes fat deposits from such
areas as abdomen, thighs, buttocks, arms and even neck. The fat
removing devices are a hollow tube called cannula and an aspirator
used for suction. The limits of the amount of fat vary from case to
case, on average it is less than 5 kg. Excessive fat suction
provokes different problems with health and
leaves the so-called “dents” in the skin. This
plastic
surgery operation can be performed both under general and local
anesthesia. The safety depends on the state of health of a patient,
for example he/she should give up smoking several months before the
operation. Liposuction is generally used as the last resort, when
neither dieting nor physical exercise could help, but without leading
a regular life after the operation one may get fat deposits in
non-operated sites. This means that liposuction is not an alternative
to a healthy life-style.
Besides various plastic surgery operations over 8 million
non-surgical procedures were performed in 2006. Botox injections are
the top of the list (3.1 million), then hyaluronic acid (1.5 million)
and laser hair removal (1.4 million) come.
Botox or Botulinum toxin is one of the most poisonous
substances,
a neurotoxin protein used both for muscle spasms treatment and for
cosmetic purposes. Botox injections smooth the wrinkles, however,
there may be some side effects like bruising, drooping eyelid, uneven
expression of face or even loss of ability to close the eyes. Due to
its limited duration (the effect lasts from six weeks to six months)
Botox injections should be resorted to more than one time.
Men also undergo plastic surgery procedures, such as hair
transplantation, liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and breast
reduction. The most
striking example of a man using plastic surgery to
improve his
appearance is Michael Jackson – a real champion of abuse. His
story
can be rather edifying for those who think that up-to-date plastic
surgery methods are all-powerful and absolutely harmless.
